Pocket review – OCHA Humanitarian Needs overview template

In these four-page “pocket reviews”, I aim to distill some of the interesting take-home messages and provide some general critique. Think of it as a starter-for-ten on where the seams of golden content may be, before you start your own digging into these large reports!

Needs analysis is a critical step in humanitarian response, and the process for developing an assessment has some useful overlaps for anyone working in population emergency management, communication and resilience.

Original document: 2021 Humanitarian Needs Overview – Annotated Template

“This document provides an overview of what information to present and how to do so in the development of the Humanitarian Needs Overview.

The HPC Step-by-Step re-asserts the sequence of the needs analysis and planning, with needs analysis directly informing the decision-making with regards to response, whether for the preparation of new plans or adjustments to existing ones.  At both the analysis and planning stages, it emphasizes commitments made at the World Humanitarian Summit and the Grand Bargain”
